Inspiration comes from within. And in this case, from within the family. Sze’s granddad owned a tailoring shop tucked away in a small town in Perak. As a child, Sze would perch on her granddad's long measuring table watching him measure layers of material to make the next suit. Born out of passion for shinny glamorous accessories, instead of becoming a dress maker, she semi-followed in the footsteps of her grandpapa and got to starting her own fashion jewelry business.
Sze started www.szeaccessories.com in August 2007 and has been riding on the waves and realizing her dreams since. What appeared to be a scary gigantic leap of faith to leave the comforts of a secured job at beauty empire Estee Lauder turned out to be more than she could wish for. The unknown reaped rewards and satisfaction; and brought forth a more tangible gratification for Sze in this past year.
However, it wasn’t always easy. Sze was initially laden with financial worries, business burdens and risk when she started her own business,. The business start-up cost depleted her off 3 working years of savings. Most of her capital was pump into designing her popular website, stocking up on jewelry materials and in promoting the brand. But in time, this rewarding hobby cum full-time business took off and began to see it’s hard earned returns. After all, Sze’s business intellect coupled with her fashionable sense of style will only bring her brand to greater heights.
Sze’s style is chic and fashionable yet classic. She stands for fashion that can go the mile and researches the latest trend before attempting the next range for the season. As for the style of Malaysian women, Sze is impressed. “Malaysians are getting more stylish and have began to pick up on the current trends. They dress well and know how to accessories.”
With the rise of fashionistas in Malaysia, more clothing stores have mushroomed. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon to start a boutique in the fashion district of Bangsar, she has opted to surf the online waves. But still, it’s no surprise that Sze jumped at a chance when approached to consign her jewelry pieces to Tea & Sympathy, a quaint boutique in Bangsar. This marks the second consignment after Sze was approached by Secret Garden in Kota Damansara to display her items there during her first month of business. “This dream come true has given me the opportunity to promote the brand in popular boutique stores around town,” exclaims Sze. This has help to give her a kick start in realizing her own retail store one day.
Sze is definitely one hot emerging talent to watch out for. Barely a year ago, she was hardly a mark on the fashion radar. But slightly into her six month, Sze’s accessories was featured in 26 different medium including magazines, newspapers and online. SzeAccessories.Com has become a recognized label through sheer hard work and commitment. Relatively new to the game, Malaysian Jewelry designer Sze is certainly the new kid on the block to stamp her mark and become the new one to watch.
