August Men, March 2010

I have to admit that when August Men first approached me to do n shoot with them, I was a total sceptic. I questioned the poor writer to his ends.
.
From Ali Imran (Writer, August Men): "I'm writing on behalf of AUGUST Man Magazine, Malaysia and I was wondering if you would be interested to be featured in our March, women's issue? Amongst some of the other ladies in, are DJ's Arafah & Tunku Nadia, socialite Sophie Kamaruddin, singer/song writer Hunny Madu, actress Diana Danielle and possibly singer/ songwriter Liana Fizi of the band Estrella.
.
I asked every question possible about the shoot. I must have gave Ali the scares. Thought maybe I was a primadonna trying to play hard-to-get. In actual fact, I thought it was one of those "men's" mags and didn't quite like the idea of skimpy clothings and sexy poses. But I was wrong. On the contrary, August Men turned out to be a men's magazine for educated, accomplished and discerning men in Malaysia. August Man's sophisticated, sharp-witted and has an iconoclastic presentation of lifestyle features, fashion, travel and commentary.
.
In a later response, Ali assured me by clearing the air: "Every Dec we have our Men of The Year issue, so we would feature 10 men in Malaysia whom we feel are deserving of the tittle, from different walks of life, such as sports, business, entertainment etc.. March or April would be our dedicated women's issue where we feature women, (instead of men) as part of the main story."
.
So, off I went. When I stepped in for the interview and photo shoot session, I was shocked to see Maggie Abang Saufi (Camilia's manager) there with her daughter Arfah. Being in the company of these celebs made me feel sooo small! I'm like a nobody next to them. Why did August Men choose me? But when I was greeted by the very down to earth Editor, Rubin, my heart stop pumping so hard and I stopped caring about why they picked me in the first place. Nice people have that soothing effect (as if you didn't already know).
.
It was unlike most shoots. The hair and makeup was...out-of-this-world. Thick dark eye liners and dark red lipstick. So vampy but thank goodness, not beneath contempt. And they even provided the classy black dress and patent shoes. So, when they brought out the poles (for me to support myself, while they took leg shots), I almost tripped and fell over the red-sole stilettos. I really thought they wanted me to pole dance. "_"
.
Anyway, that's as much as I can remember. Don't think I'll be doing anything as courages anytime soon. Check out the shots here :)

Interesting interview and more interestingly, the va-va-vroom shots. Certainly helps with unleashing the femme fatale within ;) Just a reminder to, me mostly, that sometimes in life, you've got to step out of that comfort zone and try something different. Oui?
